Always helping others
I am now on page 150, and in this section of the book, he focused on helping others, and “enabling their goals.” He talks a lot about his teaching philosophies. He also talks a lot about how to work well in groups, which I payed attention to since I am more of an individual worker. He says right from the beggining when working in groups there are a few important aspects to being a sucessful group member. They are:
learn to pronounce each others name correctly
find things in common with each other
be sure no one is tired, cold or hungry duing a meeting
let everyone talk
compliment each other
and phrase alternatives as questions (meaning one should say,”what if we did A, instead of B” as oppose to,”i think we should do A, not B.”
I know that I will be able to use this for the rest of my life. He also talks about his teaching methods. He says for most teachers, their goals are for students to walk out of their classroom and to have learned something, but for him, he wanted students to learn how to judge themselves, recognize there abilities, have a sense of their flaws, and be realistic on how others view them. Randy Pausch is what they call a renaissance man. He has a special outlook in life, and in modern times… owns life itself.
