The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

Inspirational

I am now on page 95, which is a little less than half way through the book. I want to start out by saying that there was one quote he started to repeat many timesĀ and used very often, this quote said,” brick walls are not there to stop you from doing something, they are there to show you how bad you want it.” He used this quote in many situations.

He used that quote when he decides he wants to be part of Disney’s “Imagineers”. He sent Disney an application showing what he had to offer. They sent back a letter saying that there is no position needed with the qualifcations he beholds. He then found out that they are working on an undercover project, that makes you feel as if you are on Alladin’s magic carpet. He then contacted Disney stating that he is an expert in virtual reality, and that he had something to bring to the table. They took his offer and welcomed him onto the Imagineers team.

He also used that quote when he met his future wife at a lecture hall that he was giving a speech at. He made it very obvious that he liked her, and she liked him. Not to long after, they were about to move to Pittsburgh together, but she backed out at the last second. He was heart broken and didn’t know what to do. He asked advice from his parents, and they said just to give her the support she needed. So for the week he spent giving lectures at the lecture hall, he stopped by her office and asked how she was doing. He then left for Pittsburgh and not more than a week later, she called saying she missed him, and she was in love with him.

After I finish this book, I want to see if they made copies of Pausch’s last lecture, so that I too can watch it. Thanks for reading!
