The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

Life Changing

So I decided to throw away my first book and project because it was boring. My mom said that she was going to make me read The Last Lecture anyway, so I might as well read it for my project also. My mom and brother both read it and loved it, for its meaningful and life-changing ways.

I  am 1/4th done with the book, and it has already made me think of what my childhood dreams are, because so far it seems as if his childhood dreams are what will help him through the tough time in his life as an adult. Also, he put himself in an environment in which if there was a chance that those dreams could come true, they would be able to.

He worked in the “virtual reality” section of Carnegie Mellon University. While working there, a chance came up where he would be able to float in zero-gravity, for an experiment his team and he came up with. Also, his biggest hero, Captain Kirk played by William Shatner, from Star Trek, asked Paush if he could stop by and look at his new technology. Finally, another childhood goal was to write an article in The Encyclopedia. This became a reality for him when he became an expert in Virtual Reality.  The authors of the Encyclopedia approached him, and asked if he would write a section on virtual reality.

Finally, when Pausch recieved the news that he would only live for 3 to 6 months, because he suffered from pancreatic cancer, he was put into a tough decision. He could quit his job, and spend his last months with his children, wife, and family, and create memories with his children, which after many years they probably will not remember. Or he could spend his time, partly with his family, and partly creating his last lecture, that he will give to a group of 400 people, and will be filmed so that when his children grow up, they can see and understand what type of man their father was.

I am very happy I switched to this book, and i also think that in the future ths book will be more beneficial. Thanks for reading!
